Who We Are

ZemZem Islamic Association

was established to address the spiritual and social and economical challenges facing the Muslim community. We are dedicated to spreading Islamic teachings and nurturing a generation of responsible citizens who are built upon Islamic values and actively participate in the development of their region and country.

We believe that solving the widespread problems in our community is a collective responsibility. Therefore, we strive to mobilize the entire Muslim community to stand together and fulfill our duties without delay.

Our Core Sectors (What We Do)

ZemZem Islamic Association operates through five specialized departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to community development.

Institute of Islamic & Arabic Studies

Goal: To strengthen the transition of Islamic and Arabic knowledge in our region using modern educational methods. We aim to produce individuals with a complete Islamic personality capable of overcoming challenges.
Services:
Certificate and Pre-Certificate Islamic courses based on international curriculums. Arabic Language Training Center. Short-term training on: Zakat, Tarbiyah (Character Building), Islamic Business/Trade, Hajj, Marriage, and General Islamic Education.

Quran Hifz & Markez Administration

Goal: To address the shortage of Hafiz (Quran memorizers) and qualified teachers in our region. We manage and standardize Quran centers (Markez) to ensure quality religious education.
Services:
Establishment of Quran Memorization Centers (Hifz & Nazer). Organizing Quran competitions. Facilitating Quran education for people with special needs.

Da’wa & Social Affairs

Goal: To address social and economic hardships and revive Islamic knowledge transfer. This sector focuses on humanitarian aid and community outreach.
Services:
Humanitarian Aid: Providing loans and job opportunities for youth and women. Orphan Care (Yatim): Identifying and supporting orphans through data-driven programs. Charity: Distribution of Udhiyah, Zakat, and Iftar; supporting the elderly and financially weak. Education Support: Supplying books and materials to those in need. Heritage: Researching and documenting Islamic heritage.

Design & Construction

Goal: To build the physical foundations of our faith. We believe every community needs proper spaces for worship and learning.
Services:
Construction of Quran Hifz Centers in underserved areas. Building and expanding Mosques. Constructing Islamic Libraries within mosques. Renovating Islamic heritage sites. Supplying furniture and materials for Mosques and offices.

Islamic Art & Entertainment

Goal: To utilize art and media to enhance spiritual awareness and address social issues. We support youth talent in a structured, Halal environment.
Services:
Training center for Islamic Arts. Organizing competitions to nurture talent. Media production covering spiritual, social, and economic issues. Creating platforms for the community to learn through art.

Ramadan 2026

Zakat & Sadaqah

Zemzem Islamic Association respectfully submits this proposal seeking funding support to implement the Ramadan Zakat & Sadaqah 2026 Campaign in Shire Town, North-Western Tigray, Ethiopia. The project aims to provide financial assistance (Zakat) and in-kind charitable support (Sadaqah) to 1,000 vulnerable elderly individuals, orphans, and impoverished Muslim families during Ramadan. Through this initiative, beneficiaries will receive support to secure food for Suhoor and Iftar and observe Ramadan with dignity.

Scope of Operations

Currently, we operate in Shire and the North Western Zone (Woredas). We are actively working to establish branches and expand our reach to other areas step-by-step.

Short-Term Goals

Open branches in all Woredas of the North Western Zone.Construct Mosques, Hifz Centers, and Madrasas in various local areas.Host symposiums, research presentations, and public conferences on community issues.Collaborate with other Islamic organizations and NGOs locally and abroad.

Long-Term Goals

Establish an Islamic College.Launch a modern Institute for Research and Training.Create an Islamic Multimedia and Publishing Center.Build a modern Islamic Arts Training Center.Construct the ZemZem Headquarters.

Financial Transparency & Support

Our financial model is divided into two categories to ensure sustainability and trust:

Service-Based Sectors (Self-Sustaining):
Departments: Institute of Studies, Quran Administration, and Islamic Art. Model: These sectors charge nominal fees to cover operational costs. Any surplus income is reinvested into the association’s expansion.

Charitable Sectors (Donation-Based):
Departments: Design & Construction, Da’wa & Social Affairs. Model: These rely entirely on Sadaqah, Zakat, and Donations from the community (Ahlel Kheyr) and NGOs. 100% of these funds go directly to projects like building mosques, orphan care, and humanitarian aid.
